Abstract

A method of imaging a region of interest comprising: detecting polarized and unpolarized images with light from a region of interest; and processing the polarized and unpolarized images to form a processed image of the region of interest. A system for detecting abnormal tissue (213) comprising: a light source (200) that directs light onto the issue; a detector system (219, 223) that detects polarized light from the tissue to form an image of the tissue, the detector system including a probe for insertion into a body, a polarizing element rigidly mounted relative to the probe, a first optical path to collect a first polarization image and a second optical path to collect a second image; and a processor that processes the first image and the second image to form a diagnostic image.
