Abstract

The fluidized bed contains granules (17) of polymeric material, such as rubber, which are suspended in a body of water, the grains being activated by exposure to a substance, such as alcohol or an alcohol-based substance, which makes the grains are hydrophilic, so that the mixture flowing through the housing from an inlet conduit (18) contacts the grains, and a large portion of the oil content is retained by the grains to be separated from the water content which in turn is discharged from the housing through an outlet conduit.
