Abstract

En løpende optisk fiber (10) ledes under sin bevegelse av en ringformet føringsanordnlng (40) som opptar den optiske fiber (10) inne i en indre boring (66) og stabiliserer dens tverrposlsjon etter som den beveger seg lengdeveis. Føringen (40) har et antall gass- stråler som forløper inn i den indre boring (66) som skaper en gasspute for å opprettholde posisjonen til den optiske fiber (10) l senteret av boringen (66), uten behov for noen fysisk kontakt mellom boringen (66) og den optiske fiber (10). Den rlngformede føring (40) er fortrinnsvis dannet av et hus (42) som definerer et gassplenum (74) og en strømningsstyreplate (52) som passer til huset (42) og har omkretsmesslg avstands- beliggende, radielt forløpende gasstrømningskanaler (54) etset l seg. En gasstrøm innført i plenum (74) fra en ekstern kilde fordeles til gasstrømningskanalene (54) og dermed til den Indre boring (66) for å forhindre at den optiske fiber (10) fysisk kontakter føringen (40).
