Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a method for destroying a localized mine as stated in the introduction to patent claim 1.
A known method for detecting and destroying mines (EP 0 535 044 Bl) uses an unmanned, remote-controlled underwater vehicle, a so-called ROV, as well as a remote-controlled search and mine destruction unit equipped with an explosive charge for mine destruction. The craft and the device are connected to each other by means of a fiberglass cable. The ROV is connected by means of an additional glass fiber cable to a surface ship, which has a sonar system for detecting and locating mines. The mine and search unit is equipped with a transponder, acoustic sensors, such as proximity sonar, with optical sensors, such as a TV camera with an illumination unit, as well as with sensors for measuring real data for navigation, such as direction of travel, angle relative to the horizontal plane , the distance to the seabed and the immersion depth. The transponder is connected to an acoustic positioning system (APS), whose hydrophones are arranged on the ROV. The ROV has an ejection unit, a so-called launcher, with which the search and mine destruction unit is launched. An operator located aboard the surface ship controls the search and mine destruction unit using the APS of the minesweeping sonar's mine-directed sonar beam. In the sonar beam of the minesweeper sonar, the search and mine destruction unit, whose transponder signals are shown on the screen of the minesweeper in the same way as the mine echo signals, is then steered towards the mine by the operator. The mine is studied with the help of the TV camera, and the search and mine destruction unit is brought by the operator to a position favorable for destruction relative to the mine and is then remotely ignited by the operator. The exploding explosive charge in the search and mine destruction unit, which explosive charge can for example be a hollow charge, triggers a detonation of the mine, whereby the search and mine destruction unit is also destroyed. The acoustic, optical and navigation sensors mean that the search and mine destruction unit is a relatively cost-intensive clearing device, but the time saving during mine destruction justifies this cost effort in certain cases.
In cases where the clearance time plays a minor role compared to the costs of the search and mine destruction unit, search and
mineødeleggelsesenheten ikke som en enveisfarkost med våpenskap, men som en gjentatt anvendbar undervannsfarkost, som bare legger en sprengladning ved minen og innhentes igjen fra et overflateskip før sprenglandningen og minen detoneres (Buschorn og Schiitz "Minenjagd - eine moderne Variante der Seeminenabwehr", Jarbuch der the mine-destruction unit not as a one-way craft with weapons, but as a repeatedly usable underwater craft, which only places an explosive charge at the mine and is retrieved again from a surface ship before the explosive landing and the mine is detonated (Buschorn and Schiitz "Minenjagd - eine moderne Variante der Seeminenabwehr", Jarbuch der
Wehrtechnik, 1976/77, side 142-151). Wehrtechnik, 1976/77, pages 142-151). After the retrieval of the search and mine destruction unit from the surface ship, the explosive charge is detonated remotely from the surface ship, for example by throwing a hand grenade into the water. The detonation of the explosive charge triggered thereby by means of an acoustic fire tube will destroy the mine as a result of a sympathetic detonation of the mine following the detonation of the explosive charge.
EP 0691264 Al describes an underwater vehicle controlled by a cable from a minesweeper which releases a destruction unit, where the destruction unit comprises a holder with a remotely controlled cable drum and an explosive charge carrier. The holder is placed on the seabed at a safe distance from a mine. The explosive charge carrier is anchored to the holder, where the explosive charge carrier's operating height can be remotely controlled.
Publication WO 03/045776 A discloses a system for remotely controlled mine hunting. WO 92/00220 A shows a method and device for tracking underwater objects, where a mother vessel or an intermediate vessel is equipped with sonars.
From the French patent application, FR 2668446 A, it appears an underwater craft controlled from a surface craft via a cable, where the cable connects the vessels via a support unit. The underwater vehicle also includes sonar for locating objects underwater.
The purpose of the invention is to provide a method for mine destruction, which method minimizes the costs of the clearing device and entails a significant shortening of the clearing time compared to methods where a repeatedly usable search and mine destruction unit is used. This purpose is achieved according to the invention with the features stated in patent claim 1.
The method according to the invention entails the advantage that the use of a primary and a secondary craft, both of which are unmanned and have their own drives, as an autonomous, i.e. a platform-independent tandem system, enables a cost-saving division of the system components on the repeatedly usable primary craft and on it as a disposable craft conceived secondary craft, which is a torpedo-like weapon. Thereby, the costs incurred in connection with the destruction of the secondary vessel can be kept quite low. The tandem system will, on the basis of the position data of a previously located mine and with the help of the navigation data in an on-board supported navigation device on board the primary vessel, move towards the mine. There, the primary vessel will remotely control the secondary vessel directly towards the mine, and with an ignition signal will trigger the explosive charge's fire tube. As a result of its own operation and a separate control device, the secondary craft can be brought from the primary craft to an optimal position for detonating the mine and held there until the primary craft has reached a safe distance from the mine. The setting of an optimal position for the secondary craft enables the use of a smaller explosive charge for reliable detonation of the mine, so that the space required for receiving the explosive charge in the secondary craft as well as the total weight of the secondary craft is reduced. This is of significant importance in demining, because a primary vessel can be assigned to a larger number of secondary vessels that are carried from the platform. Compared to a clearing device, which places an explosive charge at the mine, the secondary craft as a "mini effector" can be placed much more precisely and provide a reliable destruction of the mine with a significantly smaller amount of explosives.
Appropriate embodiments of the method according to the invention, as well as advantageous further developments and designs of the invention, will be set forth in the further patent claims.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the primary and secondary craft are connected to each other by means of a cable, through which cable control signals as well as drive energy can be transmitted from the primary craft to the secondary craft, and an electrical ignition signal for remote triggering of the explosive charge can also be transmitted. During the tandem system's submerged speed towards the mine, the length of cable stretched between the primary and secondary vessels is controlled so that it is constantly adapted to the momentarily occurring distance between the vessels. This prevents the cable during the approach to the mine - in contrast to a derailed and loosely hanging cable - from being able to get caught up in objects or bodies or on external elements in the preceding secondary craft and possibly be torn off.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the localization of the mine and the determination of the position data for the localized mine, which data is stored for use in the primary craft's mine destruction mission, is carried out from the platform where the tandem system is deployed, and this is done with the help of a known mine search sonar.
A mine destruction system, where the method according to the invention can be used, is stated in claim 13 and further embodiments and improvements of the mine destruction system are stated in claims 14-17.
The invention will now be described in more detail with reference to the embodiment shown in the drawing.
In the drawing, Figures 1-6 show temporally consecutive sections of the method for destroying a localized mine, Figure 7 is a block diagram for a primary craft used in the method according to Figures 1-6, and Figure 8 is a block diagram for a secondary craft used by the method according to Figures 1-6.
In the mine destruction method described below, a primary vessel 11 and a secondary vessel 12 are used, as shown in fig. 2-5. The vessels 11,12 are located on a platform 10, which, for example, as shown in fig. 1, may be a surface ship. Alternatively, the platform 10 can also be a submarine, an inflatable boat or a helicopter. Each of the two in fig. 7 and 8 as block diagrams showed vessels 11,12 have at least one drive motor 13 and 14 respectively, preferably an electric motor, and a control device 15 and 16 respectively for controlling the rudders 17 and 18 respectively. The primary vessel 11 also has an energy source 19 in the form of a fuel cell, a battery or an accumulator, and a navigation device 20, and is provided with acoustic sensors 21 and optical sensors 22 for underwater use. As an acoustic sensor, a known per se proximity sonar is preferably used, and as an optical sensor, a TV camera with a lighting device is preferably used. A cable winch 23 is also mounted in the primary vessel 11, with which a connecting cable 24 connectable to the secondary vessel 12 is wound up. All components are controlled with a control unit 25, which control unit includes an artificial intelligence 26 for processing position data for a located mine and navigation data from the navigation device 20. For storing the position data of a mine to be destroyed after localization, a warehouse 27 is arranged which is assigned to control unit 25.
The secondary craft 12, which craft is designed as a disposable craft, represents a so-called mini-effector, which is mainly only equipped with an explosive charge 28 for mine destruction and with an associated fire pipe 29. The drive energy supplies the secondary craft 12 from the primary craft 11 energy source 19 through the connecting cable 24. The connecting cable 24 also serves for the transmission of control signals to the control device 16 in the secondary vessel 12 and for the transmission of a trigger signal for activating the fire hose 29. A control electronics 30 ensures the control of the individual components in dependence on the signals transmitted through the connection cable 24.
The procedure is carried out in the following way with the help of the two vessels 11, 12, which are used as an autonomously operating tandem system in a demining mission: From the platform 10, the given demining area is searched with the help of an active sonar, a so-called mine search sonar 31. As shown in fig. . 1, for example, a mine 33 lying on the seabed 32 is detected and located by determining its position data in an earth-supported coordinate system. If the located mine 33 is to be destroyed, the position data is stored in the storage 27 in the primary vessel 11, and the two vessels 11,12 interconnected by a connecting cable 24 are launched into the water (Fig. 2) using a launching device 34 (Fig. 1) . The tandem system formed by the two underwater vessels 11,12 operates autonomously, as control signals for both the primary vessel 11 and the secondary vessel 12 are generated using the stored position data for the located mine 33 and the navigation data from the navigation device 20, and are sent to the control devices 15 and 16 in the two vessels 11, 12. The data is processed using algorithms in the artificial intelligence 26. The tandem system first moves in the shortest possible way towards the seabed 32 (fig. 2) and then at a distance from the seabed 32 to walk along the seabed 32 towards mine 33 (fig. 3). During this task movement, a cable winch 23 in the primary vessel 11 is controlled so that the extended cable length between the primary and secondary vessels 11,12 will at all times be adapted to the momentarily occurring distance between the vessels 11,12 (fig. 2 and 3). The extended cable length of the connecting cable 24 will therefore only have a minimal sag, so that the part of the connecting cable 24 that is in the water cannot hang up on objects in the water or in protruding elements on the primary or secondary vessels. With the help of the acoustic sensor 21, the mine 33 is relocated from the primary vessel 11 (Fig. 4), i.e. the mine's positional data is determined anew and entered into the storage 27, so that the control unit 25 with the artificial intelligence 26 will now have improved positional data for the mine 33 for providing the control signals for the secondary craft 12, and the primary craft 11 can thus steer the secondary craft 12 exactly towards the mine 33. If the secondary craft 12 has reached the mine 33 (fig. 5), then an ignition signal is generated in the primary craft 11, which via the connecting cable 24 goes to the fire tube 29 in the secondary craft 12 and there fires the explosive charge 28, which can for example be a hollow charge, against the mine 33. The secondary craft 12 is destroyed and the connecting cable 24 is torn (fig. 6) when the mine 33 is detonated. After the positioning of the secondary craft 12 at the mine 33, a program routine is triggered in the primary craft 11's control unit 25, so that the primary craft 11 is ordered to return to the platform 10, whose position data is also stored in the primary craft 11's storage 27. The control unit 25 gives corresponding control signals to the primary craft 11 steering device 15.
6). For certain mine types, for optimal placement of the secondary craft 12 at the mine 33, an accurate optical inspection of the mine is necessary. The tandem system then goes close to the mine 33, so that the mine 33 and its details will be visible from the primary vessel 11 with the help of lighting and a TV camera (fig. 4). With the help of this optical data, corresponding control signals for the secondary craft 12 are generated in the control unit 25, and these signals are sent to the secondary craft 12 for setting an optimal position for the blast relative to the mine 33.1 In this connection, it would be advantageous to store data regarding the optical appearance of the various mine types in the primary vehicle and compare the data captured by the TV camera with the stored data. In this way, the mine can be identified very precisely, so that on the basis of the known characteristics of the identified mine, the best location for the secondary craft can be chosen. The primary craft 11 moves away from the mine 33 until a safety distance (fig. 5) is reached, and then detonates the explosive charge 28 by means of an ignition signal fig. 6).
The invention is not limited to the described embodiment. Thus, the position data for the localized mine does not need to be stored in the primary vessel before the tandem system is put into operation. This data can also be transmitted from the platform to the primary vessel by wireless underwater communication when the tandem system is put into operational mode.
