Description
The present invention relates to a combined chain winder and deck hatch for a chain box on board an anchor handling vessel, where the chain winder is rotatable and equipped with at least one opening for receiving and passing through a chain to be stored, and that the chain box is arranged integrated in or under the deck of said vessel and is designed to receive and store at least one chain that is winched in using an anchor handling winch.
From prior art, reference should be made to, among other things, JP 57121986 A, which describes a chain winder for distributing large quantities of chain in a chain box. The chain is fed in via an anchor winch and through an opening in a rotating plate above the chain case which distributes the chain in the chain case.
GB 1471131 A shows a chain handling system on a vessel for storing chain. The chain is led over the deck to an anchor winch, through pulley systems, to a chain tail and down into a specific chain box.
EP 1997727 A1 relates to a device for positioning an anchor chain, in particular for sailboats and motorboats.
The invention relates particularly, but not exclusively, to chain winders for so-called anchor handling vessels (AHTS) for anchoring floating offshore platforms, drilling vessels, production ships and the like, where chains are wound in large chain boxes under the deck of the vessel. For safety reasons, it is necessary to reduce the opening for lowering the chain to the chain boxes to a minimum, so that the risk of a person working or walking on the working deck falling into the chain boxes is reduced to a minimum, while at the same time the chain boxes can be used optimally, without use of manual and dangerous living systems that require large free openings above the chain boxes.
The desire for greater capacities on the anchor-handling vessels in line with greater sea depths results in, among other things, requirements for the transport of larger quantities of chain. Today, the chain is normally transported in so-called "Chain boxes" which are built into the ships, and the chain passes through a large opening in the deck in the middle above the chain boxes. This means that the chain normally falls down in the middle of the box and almost lies like a "chain pyramid", and the chain boxes thus become difficult to fill up.
The invention of a combined chain winder and deck hatch ensures optimal coiling of chain in the chain boxes at the same time that the top of the chain boxes is virtually closed, and reduces the risk of a person falling into the chain boxes to a minimum.
It is an aspect of the invention to be able to fill the boxes with chain through an opening which is preferably not larger than what the chain needs to slide through. As the opening for the chain is placed in a combined, preferably circular chain coiler and hatch cover, a circular rotation is achieved which distributes the chain around over the area of the chain box.
The invention describes a concept for safer operation when taking in and putting out chain, in that this is done automatically without the crew having to carry out dangerous operations to stow chain, and at the same time keep almost the entire area above the chain boxes closed so that the risk of people walking on deck can fall into the chain boxes is reduced to a minimum, and the invention will significantly increase the safety of crew on board AHTS ships, and helps to satisfy general safety requirements within the offshore industry.
The chain winder according to the invention means that the chain in the chain boxes can be much better stowed and distributed, and will, among other things, provide the following advantages: 1) The chain in the chain boxes will not shift due to the ship's movements in the open sea. 2) Chain boxes can be built with a larger horizontal area and which allows the chain box to accommodate the amount of chain that the offshore industry needs when anchoring at great water depths. 3) The chain boxes can be filled, for example, to approx. 85 -90% of total volume, against normal for existing AHTS without chain coilers, approx. 65-70%. 4) Each AHTS can be utilized better and transport more chain within the same chain box volume.
The above-mentioned purpose is achieved, as stated in the independent claim 1, by the fact that the chain winder is designed as a rotatable hatch arranged on the chain case so that the chain case is almost covered at the same time as the chain is arranged to be coiled in the chain case, and that the hatch is stored on horizontal and vertical guide wheels or rollers, and is equipped with a sealing arrangement to keep moisture away from the chain box, and that said opening is radially displaceable in the rotatable hatch.
Alternative utførelser er angitt i respektive uselvstendige krav 2-7. Alternative designs are specified in respective independent claims 2-7.
Said opening in the hatch is preferably only marginally larger than the chain that is winched in. The opening can also be equipped with a chain clamp which is adapted to the diameter of the chains to be carried through. The chain lock can be closable.
The rotatable hatch can be designed as a circular plate supported on a number of rollers or guide wheels and which is driven by an adjacent drive motor.
One or more video cameras can be installed in relevant chain boxes for visual control of the chain winding. Furthermore, the chain winder can be remotely controlled, such as from the same control panel as the AHTS winches.
The invention will now be described in more detail by means of an exemplary embodiment shown in the figures, in which: Figure 1 shows a schematic diagram of a chain coiler system according to the invention. Figure 2 shows a combined chain coiler and hatch according to the invention, seen from above. Figure 3 shows the combined chain coiler and hatch shown in Figure 2 in section. Figure 4 shows a section of a chain hoist for use in the chain winder shown in figures 2 and 3. Figures 5 and 6 show an arrangement of the chain winder system on board an anchor handling vessel, seen respectively in a section and from above.
As mentioned, the area of use for the chain winder according to the invention is mainly intended on board an anchor handling vessel, but other areas of use cannot be ruled out. Figure 1 shows a system according to the invention, and shows a chain 26 which is pulled in by means of an anchor handling winch. During retracting, the chain will run from the sea and over the deck of the vessel and possibly through so-called shark jaws and tow pins, which are normally mounted aft on the deck, and to the anchor handling winch normally placed further forward on the vessel. The chain 26 is then led to a chain box 20 which is placed in or under the deck 22 of the vessel.
From a chain cable 32 to the anchor handling winch, the chain 26 is led to a chain tailer 30, from where the chain is further led via one or more chain guides 28 to respective chain boxes 20.1 figure 1 shows that a first chain 26 is led to a first chain box 20, while an illustrative second chain 26 is led to a second chain case 20. The first chain 26 is also illustratively shown in several positions as the chain winder 10 rotates.
Figures 2 and 3 show in more detail a chain winder 10 according to the invention. In the embodiment shown, the chain winder 10 is designed as a circular hatch 36 which is placed on the chain case 20. By means of an adjacent drive motor 14, connected to a drive belt or chain 16, the hatch can be rotated about its central axis at adjustable speed. The drive motor can, for example, be an electric or hydraulic motor. In the hatch 36, at least one opening 12 is also provided through which the chain 26 is led. In Figure 2, only one opening 12 is initially shown, the other three circles shown are intended to show different positions of the opening 12 during rotation of the hatch 36. However, it should be noted that the hatch 36 can be equipped with more than one opening 12. The hatch 36 can also be equipped with a sealing arrangement 24, so that moisture is kept away from the chain case 20, when the chain winder is not in use and only functions as a hatch.
In the hatch 36, the chain feedthrough in the chain winder can also be equipped with a chain clevis 34 to facilitate insertion into the chain box 20. The chain clevis 34 is preferably adapted to the diameter of the chains to be led through, and the chain clevis can be designed with different diameters.
In a specific version of a chain winder, this can be designed with a diameter of approx. 50 to 60% of the length and width of the chain box to be served, it can be built in steel or synthetic material with the strength of the ship's deck around, and be stored with 4 to 8 horizontal rollers and 4 to 8 vertical rollers. Other designs are of course possible depending on desire.
In an alternative embodiment, the hatch 36 can be designed with a diametrical groove and associated drive arrangement (not shown), so that the chain block 34 is radially displaceable in the rotatable hatch 36.
The chain cleats 34 can also be equipped with separate closing hatches (not shown), which are closed when the chain winder is not in use for lowering or extracting and winding the chain.
For optimal use of the chain winder, a video camera can be installed in relevant chain boxes for visual control of the chain winding. Furthermore, the chain winder 10 can be controlled remotely, for example from the same control table as the AHTS winches.
