Description

METHOD AND ARRANGEMENT FOR INSTALLING A WALL-MOUNTED TOILET SEAT
TECHNICAL FIELD
[0001] The present invention relates to bathroom plumbing fixtures and installation thereof. In particular, the invention relates to the installation of a wall-mounted toilet seat and an arrangement intended therefor. In more detail, the invention relates to an installation method and an arrangement for carrying out the installation according to the preamble of claim 1.
BACKGROUND
[0002] Wall-mounted toilet seats offer several advantages. They allow the toilet flushing tank to be neatly sheltered inside the wall, resulting in a neat wall surface. Space is also often also saved, as the projection of the actual toilet seat from the wall is smaller than that of a seat with an integrated reservoir. The problem with toilet seats equipped with an tank installed inside the wall is the protection of the space for the tank inside the wall from possible leakage and condensation. The space for the tank must at least be waterproofed or, preferably, a water collection basin must be constructed at the bottom of it. There can be an overflow tube from the water collection basin into the bathroom area. The overflow pipe ventilates the space and indicates possible leaks in the form of overflow water appearing on the bathroom floor. The space for the tank is cramped, which makes it difficult and time-consuming to install waterproofing or the water collection basin. Ensuring sufficient waterproofing is also an issue.
[0003] Thus there is a need to provide a more feasible and secure structure for the collection of condensate and in case of any leakages.
SUMMARY
[0004] The purpose of the invention is to create a novel arrangement for the humidity control of the space for the tank of a wall-mounted toilet seat. The arrangement comprises a protective cover provided with a basin. For example, it has an arrangement for the penetration of the toilet seat sewer pipe as well as an overflow pipe for condensation or leakage water. Other aspects may comprise protective walls of the basin, which may extend along one or more rims away from the basin, i.e. upwards from the bottom of the installed basin. An inclination has been formed at the bottom of the basin, directing the water collected in the basin to the overflow pipe.
[0005] The invention is characterized by what is disclosed in the characterizing parts of the independent claims.
[0006] According to one aspect of the invention there is provided a protective casing comprising a basin comprising a bottom with an inclination and a rim extending from the surface of the bottom with the inclination, the rim consisting of two opposing short walls and two opposing long walls, an arrangement for passing the sewer pipe of the toilet seat through the bottom and a discharge pipe arranged at the point of collection of the inclination. The protective casing fits into the space of the tank of the wallmounted toilet seat and the sewer pipe of the toilet seat is passed through and sealed into a penetration arrangement, the tank with its water connections is fitted into the space for the tank and the space for the tank is closed to form the wall so that the discharge pipe passes through the wall into the bathroom area.
[0007] According to another aspect of the invention, the arrangement comprises a protective casing having a basin comprising an inclined bottom and a rim extending from the inclined surface of the bottom, the rim comprising two opposing short walls and two opposing long walls, an arrangement for passing the sewer pipe of the toilet seat through the bottom and a discharge pipe arranged at the point of collection of the inclination.
[0008] At least the following aspects are connected to invention, one or more of which may be combined with other aspects of the invention to form suitable applications for different installations:
- one long wall extends farther from the surface with the inclination than the opposite wall to form a high protective wall;
- short walls extend to the same height as the high protective wall to form a U-shaped protective structure;
- the U-shaped protective structure is divided into two parts:
- there is a pedestal on the side opposite to the surface with the inclination of the basin;
- the pedestal is a rim partially surrounding the basin, the height of which is at least the height of the inclination of the basin;
- the protective casing, the sewer pipe pass through and the discharge pipe are of the same uniform piece.
[0009] In the following, some embodiments of the invention are disclosed in more detail by means of reference to the appended drawings, in which:
FIGURE 1 shows a perspective view of an arrangement according to at least one embodiment for humidity proofing of the space for the tank of a wall-mounted toilet seat,
FIGURE 2 shows the arrangement of figure 1 seen from the direction of the discharge pipe,
FIGURE 3 shows the arrangement of figure 1 seen from the direction of the short side, and
FIGURE 4 is a cross-sectional view of figure 3.
EMBODIMENTS
[0010] DEFINITIONS
[0011] In this context, the expression “upward direction” means the direction of arrival of freely flowing water or, conversely, the direction opposite to the earth's gravity. Usually this direction is away from the level of the installation surface.
[0012] The wall-mounted toilet seat is a pleasant element in the bathroom as it clarifies the division of bathroom fixtures. As the water tank of the toilet seat and its connections are placed inside the wall structure, the wall surface is flat and only the seat itself protrudes from the wall surface. However, since the water tank is arranged inside the wall structure, the water tank installation space must be provided with protection from condensate and leakage water. This arrangement comprises a basin forming the water collection part and at least part of the sides of the basin are provided with protective walls to prevent splash water and other moisture from entering the structures surrounding the water tank of the toilet seat. Draining the collected water into the bathroom space and the penetration of the toilet seat sewer pipe is arranged in connection with the basin.
[0013] FIGURE 1 illustrates one embodiment of the invention. The arrangement comprises a protective casing having a basin 1 comprising a bottom 2 with inclination and a rim extending away from the surface with bottom 3 with inclination, the rim consisting of two opposing short walls 4, 5 and two opposing long walls, the first long wall 6 and the second long wall 7. Here the inclination is formed by three triangular planar surfaces being joined at their rims. One of the planar surfaces is connected to another long wall along its long side and the other two to short walls by their one side. Each of the planar surfaces forms a small angle with the wall it is connected to. Thus they form an inclination towards the tip of the planar surface connected to second long side 7. The purpose of inclination is to collect any condensation water at the deepest point of the inclination. To ensure the correct position of this inclination, the protective casing must be positioned so that the surface 3 having the inclination faces upwards.
[0014] At the bottom of the basin 1 there is an arrangement for passing the sewer pipe of the toilet seat through the bottom. Here, penetration arrangement 8 is an annular collar extending upward from the level of the surface with inclination. The height of the collar should be high enough to prevent even reasonably abundant leakage water from flowing over the lip of the collar. The collar, like any other condensate protection, does not have to be dimensioned according to a catastrophic failure and leakage, because in such a situation, overflow occurs quickly if the leakage is not detected soon. In the pass-through arrangement 8, the collar could be the only necessary item, as the sewer pipe installed therein conducts water out from the toilet seat, and neither condensation nor leakage water is supposed to extend beyond the lip of the collar. A sealing element, such as a rubber seal, can be used between the sewer pipe and the collar, or sealant can be used to improve sound insulation or as an additional security. Usually, the toilet sewer pipe is on the centre line of the structure, so the natural position of the pass-through fitting 8 is along the centre line of the protective casing. The position of the pass-through arrangement 8 can be changed for different toilet seat structures. In this example, the collection point of the inclination is in the middle of basin 1 in the middle of the first long side 6. Discharge pipe 9 has been arranged at this collection point of the inclination. Water accumulated water in the basin 1 is passed through the bathroom wall to the bathroom floor by means of the discharge pipe 9. Condensate can be directed to the bathroom floor without risk, as the bathroom is a wet area. Usually, the amount of condensate is small and it evaporates from the floor or is drained into the sewer. In case of leakage, a larger amount of water will be detected and remedial action can be taken. Here, too, the location of the discharge pipe can be varied, but when placed in the middle of the basin, the pipe remains out of sight behind the toilet seat. The shape of the inclination of the basin 1 and the location of the discharge pipe 9 must be matched. The discharge pipe can be chromated or otherwise coated or made of a material with the desired appearance so that it matches the appearance of the rest of the bathroom.
[0015] The protective casing must be installed in a confined space before installing the toilet seat. A wall-mounted toilet seat is attached to a separate support frame or to a support structure made into the wall. The water tank of the toilet seat with its water inlets and sewer connections are located in the installation space behind the support structure. The protective casing is arranged in this space, subsequent to which the water tank is arranged therein it and the necessary connections are made. The rear wall of the installed protective casing, i.e. the second long wall 7, is dimensioned so that it extends at least partially to the area of the pipe joints and even above the lower rim of the water tank, thus protecting the rear wall of the installation space from moisture. The short walls 4, 5 extend to the same height as the second long wall. The first long wall is considerably lower. The protective casing is thus at least partially open from the side of the bathroom wall. In this way, the water tank, its connections and the connections of the toilet seat can be made in an open space. After installation, the side of the first long wall of the protective casing can be closed by means of a separate protective plate or, if desired, by means of a moisture-protected structure of the bathroom wall structure.
[0016] In the structure described above, one long wall, the second long wall 7, extends farther away from the inclined surface 3 of the basin 1 than the opposite long wall, the first long wall 6, to form a high protective wall behind the water tank. The short walls 4, 5 at the sides of the long walls 6, 7 extend to the same height as the high protective wall to form a U-shaped protective structure. This U-shaped protective structure can be divided into two parts as shown in FIGURES 1, 2, 3 and 4. The first U-shaped protective part 10 extends from the rim structure of the basin 1 and can be an integrated or a detachable part. The second U-shaped protective part 11 has the same profile shape as the first U-shaped protective part 10. They are connected as a extensions of each other by a connection collar 12. The connection collar 12 can be, for example, a male-female connection formed on the U-shaped protective parts 10, 11 or a separate connecting collar. If desired, a separate connecting collar 12 can also be used for attaching the protective casing to the support structure.
[0017] The side opposite the surface 3 with the inclination of the basin 1 is provided with a pedestal. The pedestal is a rim partially surrounding the basin, the height of which is at least the height of the inclination of the basin so that the protective casing remains on the pedestal during installation and the bottom of the basin does not contact the installation surface. Thus, the protective case is stably fastened. Figures 2, 3 and 4 show one structure of the pedestal. There, at the location of each short wall 4, 5 and the first long wall 6 and the second long wall 7 there is a foot 13 in the shape of a guardrail. Each foot 13 extends to only a part of the length of the corresponding wall. This makes the stand easier to arrange on the installation surface with no
closed, unventilated space remaining under the basin. Alternatively, the pedestal can be carried out with pole-like legs, pipes or even a separate pedestal.
[0018] The protective casing, the sewer pipe penetration and the discharge pipe are of the same uniform piece. The U-shaped protective parts can also be same piece with them. On one hand, the structure can be divided into separate parts in many ways to facilitate installation and transportation. On the other hand, a uniform structure can be easier to install in some locations and it can be better sealed due to the lack of seams.
[0019] In particular, injection-moulded plastics are used as structural material. It is however obvious that many composite and polymeric materials and metals are also possible.
INDUSTRIAL APPLICABILITY
