Abstract

Det beskrives en fremgangsmåte som utnytter naturlig karbon-13 isotop for identifisering av tidlig gjennombrudd av injeksjonsvann i oljebrønner. Alle naturlige vannkilder er merket med unike forhold mellom karbonisotopet 13C /12C. I henhold til oppfinnelsen vil karbonisotopforholdet for oljebærende formasjoner av vann og for lokal akvifer vann som skal injiseres i oljereservoaret, bli bestemt. Karbonisotopforholdet for det produserte vann fra den valgte oljebrønn blir så fulgt periodisk. Når karbonisotopforholdet for produsert (oljebrønn) vann viser avvik fra formasjonsvannverdien og tenderer mot injeksjonsvannverdien kan tidlig gjennombrudd av injeksjonsvann identifiseres. Således tjener kontrasten i karbonisotopforhold mellom injeksjonsvann, formasjonsvann og produsert vann fra valgte oljebrønner som tracer ved identifisering av fenomenet "tidlig gjennombrudd" av injeksjonsvann og dets bevegelse.
