Abstract

Anordninger og fremgangsmåter for kloning og forvaltning av databasefragmenter er tilveiebragt. Et databaseobjekt, så som en tabell, et radsett eller en indeks deles inn i fragmenter. Hvert fragment blir klonet for å skape klonede fragmenter som funksjonelt er hovedsaklig identiske. Ett eller flere av de klonede fragmentene kan bli utpekt som et primært klonet fragment for gjennomføring av databaseoperasjoner eller som et sekundært klonet fragment for å tjene som sikkerhetskopi. Oppdateringer av hvert fragment blir utført på det primære klonede fragmentet, og blir så overført fra det primære klonede fragmentet til de motsvarende sekundære klonede fragmentene. Et klonet fragment kan gå offline slik at det er utilgjengelig for oppdatering. Når det klonede fragmentet returnerer online, blir det klonede fragmentet oppfrisket med data omfattet i det primære klonede fragmentet. Mens det blir oppfrisket kan det klonede fragmentet samtidig bli oppdatert ytterligere. Det klonede fragmentet er kandidat til å bli utpekt som primært klonet fragment når oppfriskingsprosessen er fullført. 1
