Et par av styreelementer som er kjennetegnet ved at minst ett av elementene er fremstilt av et stål som inneholder minst 0,15 til 0,3 % vekt karbon, 2,5 til 5 % vekt (fortrinnsvis 2-3 %) krom, minst 0,45 % vekt (fortrinnsvis ikke mer enn 0,9 % vekt) molybden, og minst 0,01 % vekt og ikke mer enn 0,5 % vekt (fortrinnsvis ikke mer enn 0,3 %) vanadium. Stålet blir nitrert etter forming hvorved det oppnås et sammensatt lag som består av jern og nitrogen atomer med en tykkelse som varierer fiia 5-50 mikrometer. Stålet kan også inneholde 0,4 til 1,5 % vekt mangan.
