Et system for bruk ved styring av en hydrokarbonproduserende brønn omfatter beregningsutstyr (6) på et styringssted fjernt fra brønnens ventiltre, brønntreutstyr (11,3,4,5,13) som omfatter behandlingsutstyr (2) for å avgi styringssignaler til og motta signaler fra brønntreets utstyrsenheter, og utstyr (13) for å motta ytterligere signaler knyttet til driften av brønnen, samt en toveis kommunikasjonsforbindelse (8) mellom beregningsutstyret og brønntreutstyret. Brønntreutstyret omfatter også en kommunikasjonsruter (12) koblet til behandlingsutstyret og det mottagende utstyr for multipleksing av signalene fra utstyrsenhetene ved brønnhodet og de ytterligere signaler på toveisforbindelsen.
