Abstract
En fremgangsmåte ved oppgradering av et optisk kommunikasjonssystem som omfatter flere knutepunkter forbundet med hverandre med en eller flere optiske baner (10,11), idet hver bane er beregnet på kommunikasjon av trafikk omfattende en eneste optisk kanal. Hvert knutepunkt har "sett inn/fell ut"-multipleksutstyr (ADM-utstyr) (1) for å sette inn og felle ut signaler i elektrisk form og konverteringsutstyr (8, 9) for omdannelse av signaler avgitt fra ADM-utstyret mellom elektrisk og optisk form for overføring via en første (10) av de optiske baner og for omdannelse av signaler mottatt via en andre (11) -av de optiske baner for tilførsel til ADM-utstyret. Fremgangsmåten omfatter trinn hvor optisk demultipleksutstyr (30, 40, 42) installeres for å velge ut signaler mottatt via den andre av de optiske baner i samsvar med bølgelengde for tilførsel til ADM-utstyret. Det installeres utstyr for å omdanne signalene avgitt fra ADM-utstyret til et første, stabilt smalbåndet optisk signal og det installeres optisk multipleksutstyr (31, 41, 43) for å lede det første signal inn i den første optiske bane og som omfatter utstyr for å tillate et eller flere ytterligere stabile, smalbåndede optiske signaler som har forskjellige frekvenser fra det første signal, å bli satt inn og kombinert med det første signal til den første optisk bane.
