Oppfinnelsen angår en fremgangsmåte for kontroll av overbelastning i et pakkesvitsjet nettverk, særlig i et nettverk hvor (TCP) (Transmision Control Pro-tocol, overføringskontroll-protokoll) benyttes som transportlag-protokoll. For å in-formere trafikk-kilden på et svært tidlig trinn om at nettverket er i ferd med å bli overbelastet eller få trafikkork, forsinkes erkjennelsene som går mot kilden, når belastningsnivået i nettverket overskrider en på forhånd bestemte verdi.
