Description

The present invention relates to a method for lowering and a method for raising a drainage grate in relation to the gutter of a drain.

Placing a drainage grate on a drainage channel so that it essentially flows with adjacent surfaces in a carriageway, for example open spaces, streets etc., often entails extensive adjustment work, and this is especially the case when the drainage grate is readjusted, for example after new asphalt has been laid on the adjacent surfaces or when this asphalt is worn down and the grate must be lowered to achieve flush with the surfaces. This is required on the one hand to ensure that the surface water can flow from the surrounding surfaces to the drainage grate and thus down into the gutter and on the other hand to prevent the drainage grate from standing up from the surface and forming an obstacle to traffic. This also applies if the drainage grate should be submerged in relation to the adjacent surfaces.

With the methods according to the present invention, the upper side of the drainage grate can be easily and quickly adjusted to the correct level in relation to the surrounding surfaces. This is achieved with the methods according to the present invention, as they are described with the features listed in the claims.

In the drawing, fig. 1 a cross-section of the drainage channel according to the invention and fig. 2 shows a plan view of the drainage grate.

After burying the gutter 1 of concrete in the area to be dewatered, a concrete mass 4 is placed on the gutter's upper edge surfaces to achieve a rough leveling of the upper side in relation to the surrounding surface and thus ensure that the gutter 1 has a sufficient fall over its length for the water to be carried away. For casting the concrete screed 4, for example, a formwork or an adjustment table 6 can be used, which, however, is removed after assembly. On the concrete screed 4, bituminous mass 3 is laid and the drainage grate 2 is set in place with legs protruding downwards and in the gutter 1, as the flanges 7 of the drainage grate 2 come into contact with the bituminous mass. If necessary, bituminous mass is refilled through openings 5 in the flanges 7 until the upper side of the drainage grate 2 is essentially flush with the adjacent surfaces. Next, the drainage grate 2 is rolled until it is flush with the upper side of the adjacent surfaces, any excess bituminous mass 3 thereby being pressed out through the openings 5 and later removed from the upper side of the drainage grate 2. In this way, a drainage grate 2 is obtained in a simple and quick manner which is flush with the surrounding surfaces and which can later be adjusted due to wear of the surrounding surfaces, possibly by re-asphalting them. If the surrounding surfaces are worn down and the drainage grate 2 is to be lowered, the drainage grate 2 is heated to around 100°C, the bituminous mass 3 thereby also being heated. The drainage grate 2 is then rolled down until its upper side is flush with the surroundings, the bituminous mass 3 thereby being pressed out through the openings 5 until flush is achieved. Excess bituminous mass is then removed.

If the drainage grate 2 is to be raised, for example, to achieve flush with the upper side of new asphalt on surrounding surfaces, the drainage grate 2 is likewise heated until the bond between the bituminous mass 3 and the underside of the flanges 7 is released. The drainage grate 2 is then raised to the desired level and bituminous mass is refilled through the openings 5 until the open space between the upper side of the bituminous mass 3 and the underside of the flange is filled, after which the drainage grate 2 is rolled again until the upper side is flush with the surroundings and any extruded bituminous masses are removed.

With the drainage channel and the methods according to the invention, there is the possibility of simple and quick readjustment of the drainage grates 2; upper sides to flush with surrounding surfaces, both when raising and lowering the drainage grate.
