Abstract
Description
By cultivating the use of crops in increasingly denser plantings in monocultures, soil contamination, especially in the cultivation of tuberous plants, such as potatoes, beets and the like, is occurring at an increasing rate. In the nutrient medium and the plants harmful fungi develop for a crop and, for example, potatoes are increasingly sensitive to potato fatigue. The soil is still not cultivated every season to prevent the contamination from building up. Furthermore, with resistant crops, which are expensive, contamination problems can be reduced. Nutrient soils are also increasingly disinfected by means of gasification whereby toxic gases are introduced into the soil. In the future, this method may be prohibited due to stricter environmental requirements.
In horticulture in particular, nutrient soils are often disinfected by means of steam, which requires a large amount of energy.
De onderhavige uitvinding betreft een werkwijze en inrichting respectievelijk volgens conclusies l en 2.The present invention relates to a method and device according to claims 1 and 2, respectively.
By irradiating a nutrient medium with microwaves of approximately 20 GHz, energy is absorbed by water and aquatic organisms, tests have shown that at this frequency cysts, which occur, for example, in soil on which potatoes have been grown, are destroyed. Large biologically formed bipolar molecules can have a peak in their resonant frequency, which is lower than the resonant frequency of water. These bipolar molecules can be selectively heated at such a lower frequency, whereby congulation of cell proteins occurs and a reduced viability of the organism is effected. Since water absorbs less energy at this lower frequency, the efficiency at such a frequency will be high.
The present invention furthermore relates to a method for disinfecting leaves, for example beet leaves, which is used as animal feed and which can be easily disinfected with the aid of microwaves.
Fig. 1 is a schematic perspective view of a first embodiment of a method and device according to the present invention; Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view of a second embodiment of a device according to the present invention; fig. 3 shows a perspective, schematic view of a third embodiment according to the present invention; and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a fourth embodiment of the present invention.
Behind a tractor 1 (fig. 1), for example, a container 3 is suspended from suspension members 2. The tray 3 is, for example, partially foldable with the aid of lifting members 4. The tray 3 preferably has metal walls which are impervious to the radiation from a transmitter 6 received in the tray 3. The driving speed of the trigger 1 will depend, inter alia, on the amount of energy to be supplied to the microwave transmitter 6, which comes from an aggregate not shown, which can be coupled to the trigger. The container 3 has, for example, a width of 2.5 m and a height of 5 to 15 cm. The container 3 can be moved to and from the ground with the aid of the suspension members 2.
The frequency of the microwave radiation is determined by organisms in the soil that show an undesirable effect on the crops to be grown on the soil.
In a second embodiment of a device according to the present invention (fig. 2), a bin 11 is provided with one or more coupling members 12 for rolling the bin 11 over the bottom G, as well as with one or more members 13 in the form of baffles or plates 13 provided with a knife edge 14, in each case the radiation from a transmitter 16 between two baffles is sent to the ground G, which is simultaneously slightly turned over by the knife edges.
Preferably, reflective waves are included on the tray for reflecting microwaves radiating between the tray and the ground to the ground.
In another embodiment of the device according to the invention, one or more microwave transmitters 21 are contained in a tray 22 for material 23 for a nutrient medium, e.g. in a greenhouse 24 for horticultural crops. Preferably, the microwave transmitters 21 are embedded in a material 26, e.g. of plastic material, contained in an enclosure 27, e.g. of another plastic material.
Voorts (fig. In addition, (fig. 4), a lifting machine 31 for harvesting beets B provided with foliage L above the conveyor 32 for the foliage may comprise a microwave transmitter 33 for disinfecting this prior to the discharge of the foliage (arrow A). and can be used as animal feed without further processing. Irradiation of foliage can also take place in the vicinity of the place of application as animal feed.
