Abstract
Description
Short designation: Substructure construction for an artificial grass field and synthetic turf field with such a substructure construction.
The invention relates to a substructure construction for an artificial turf field, consisting of a sand bed with a damping co-determining layer applied to it, which rubber particles contain an inorganic material. The invention further relates to an artificial grass field with such a substructure construction.
In European patent application 260,769, the prior art, as it applied in 1986, is shown approximately as follows. In recent years, an increasing interest has arisen for synthetic turf pitches because it is possible to practice sports with these pitches in almost all weather conditions and there should be less fear of being rejected. An artificial grass field can also be used much more intensively than a natural grass field. An artificial grass pitch sprinkled with sand can be used without problems for about 2000 hours per year, while the average playing degree of a natural grass pitch is 250-300 hours per year. The maintenance costs are also considerably lower for an artificial grass field, as these are approximately Hfl per field per year. Amounts to 3,000, while this is Hfl on average for a natural lawn. 20,000 per field per year. These advantages have led to the construction of more and more artificial grass pitches, which are mainly used for playing hockey. Such synthetic turf pitches are also known from the patent literature, in particular since the publication of US patent 3,995,079, published in 1976. A great deal of attention was then devoted to applying a filling material between the fibers that form the synthetic turf, so that on the one hand the synthetic turf pitches cheaper to install, because less fiber material was needed and, on the other hand, the field acquired properties that were more comparable to those of a natural field. For playing hockey on an artificial turf field, the flatness of the field is particularly important and furthermore the damping or softness. On the other hand, the damping is most important for a football field because in football the players perform more movements such as jumping and making slidings than in hockey. Attempts have been made to vary the damping of an artificial turf field by partially replacing the sand layer sprinkled between the fibers with another material such as rubber particles, which were bonded together using a binder, as described in U.S. Patent 4,396,653 . A sand layer was then sprinkled on these rubber granules, which were brought together with a binder. In practice, however, such a construction turned out to be unsatisfactory because the scattered layers had too springy character. Furthermore, an artificial turf field is described in U.S. Patent 4,497,853, in which a substructure construction is used comprising a layer of coconut fibers, covered by a water-impermeable layer. This construction is expensive because it is built up from a substructure construction which consists of at least three different layers and moreover the synthetic turf field thus obtained does not have the desired damping. An improved substructure construction for an artificial turf field, which can be used in particular for football because a higher damping is obtained, is mentioned in European patent specification 0.136.747. The substructure construction described therein is composed of unbroken sand mixed with at least 1% by weight of fibrous material, for which polypropylene fibers, Nylon fibers or glass fibers have been mentioned. Subsequently, European patent application 204,381 was made available for inspection, wherein the substructure is based on a mixture of sand and chips or fiber of an elastomeric material, the chips or fibers making up 10-50¾ of the mixture. Preferably, the scraps or fibers are rubber of an elongated shape as is obtained when cutting car tires. Furthermore, it has been found that, over time, the substructure can still better retain the original structure and thus the original damping or resilience can also be maintained when the substructure is given a certain structure during construction and this has been achieved with a substructure as described in the European patent application 260,769, in which a skeleton is built up of rubber granules with an amount of sand applied therein, so that a structure is obtained which consists of 30-40% by weight of rubber granulate and 60-70% by weight of sand. With this construction it turned out to be possible to obtain a substructure for an artificial turf field for practicing football. The substructure as described in European patent application 260,769 is very suitable for practicing football sport due to a relatively high damping capacity, but less suitable for practicing hockey sport. This is because requirements are not only imposed on the damping capacity, but also on the stability and the permanent flatness of the field.
The aim is now for artificial grass pitches that can be used for multiple sports, such as football, hockey, korfball or other sports. The benchmark for a relatively soft field is a damping capacity with repeated loading of 2400 N. The damping capacity of a hockey field after repeated loading must not be less than 30%. Based on the further research, a substructure construction for an artificial turf field was found that is suitable for hockey as well as football and any other sports such as korfball and the substructure construction according to the invention is characterized in that the damping determining layer is composed of granules of lava and rubber. . Preferably, the cushioning co-determining layer consists of 8-15% rubber particles and 92-85% lava particles. The rubber particles are preferably a rubber granulate and the lava particles are preferably of a similar size and shape as the rubber granulate particles. In this way a substructure construction has been obtained consisting of a stable lava skeleton, of which lava granules have been replaced by rubber particles. The lava thus provides stability and the rubber for damping. When the lava-rubber mixture contains less than 8% by weight of rubber particles, the damping capacity after repeated loading falls more than desired, although this can be somewhat compensated for by a more optimal distribution of the particle size. Namely, it has been found that the rubber granulate should preferably have a particle size of 2-15 mm and the lava a particle size of 2-16 mm. Therefore, the following examples describe substructure structures for synthetic turf pitches that contain more than 8% rubber particles. The invention is further illustrated by the following examples.
Voorbeeld IExample I
A mixture of lava beads with a particle size between 11 and 16 mm was mixed with rubber granulate with a particle size of 7-15 mm in a ratio such that the mixture contains 91% lava and 9% rubber. With this mixture, a substructure construction was made for an artificial grass field for practicing hockey. Further measurements showed that this field had a permanent damping of 31%. The lava rubber mixtures have a specific gravity, calculated on the basis of the dry material of 1.2-1.3.
Voorbeeld IIExample II
For a hockey / football field, a substructure construction was designed consisting of 85% lava particles with a particle size of 11-16 mm and 14% rubber granulate with a particle size of 7-15 mm. With such a substructure construction, a permanent damping of 38% could be obtained, so that this field could be used with good results as a football field and as a hockey field.
Voorbeeld IIIExample III
A multifunctional synthetic turf field was provided with a substructure construction consisting of 86% lava particles with a grain size of 2-11 µm and 14% rubber granulate of 2-15 mm. This field had a permanent attenuation of 44%. and could be used successfully for the practice of hockey, football and netball.
