Abstract

A space structure suitable for buildings, ships, aircraft, etc., is formed by means of a form element which is incorporated into the structure. The form element comprises a sandwich structure of a woven material filled with a fill material, e.g. plastics foam, under pressure. The shape of the element is determined by the shape of the woven material of which it is constructed and the pressurised fill material gives the element its dimensional and structural stability. A desired shape can be achieved without the need for a form which does not constitute a part of the structure. The cost of the form is eliminated, transport costs are reduced and mass prodn. of the structural elements is possible. The nature and strength of the woven material and of the fill can be chosen to suit the needs of the application.
