Abstract

Floating structure comprises an openwork framework into which is attached a foamed plastics material. The framework provides the strength of the structure while the plastics foam provides the buoyancy. In a pref. construction, the framework is made up of a number of profile rods joined to each other at 90 degrees so that the interstices can be filled with foam blocks. The structure does not rely on the foam for its strength as in prior art buoyant foam articles. The construction may be e.g. made in the shape of a ship, e.g. for use as a lightship, buoys, helicopter landing pads, flaoting hotels advertisement structures, transporters, etc.
