Abstract
Optically active prostaglandin analogues of formula (I), their racemates mirror images and pharmaceutically acceptable salts when R1 is H are new. In the formula, W is one of the gps. (II)-(VI). R1 is OH, tri-(1-4C alkyl) silyloxy or 1-6C alkoxy R2 is H, OH, tri(1-4C) alkyl) silyloxy or 2-5C alkanoyl. Y is R3 is H, tri(1-4C alkyl) silyloxy or 2-5C alkanoyl, but must be H when W contains a R4 is H, 1-7C alkyl or phenoxy opt. substd. by halo, CF3 or CH3O. m is 0-4; n is 0-4 and m+n is 2-4. 13-14C is ethylene or transvinylene. w is 0 or 1. Z is (CH2)p, CH2CHcisCH-(CH2)q, (CH2)tOCH2 or (CH2)tSCH2. p is 5-7; q is 1-3; t is 3-5. R5 is not defined. When Z contains a double bond, C13-C14 is trans-vinylene. (I) are useful as vasodepressants; smooth muscle stimulants, anti-lipolytics; gastric secretion inhibitors; CNS active cpds.; platelet-aggregation inhibitors; stimulants of keratinisation and epidermal proliferation; nasal decongestants; hypotensives; labour inducers; regulators of the menstrual cycle and bronchodilators. Compared with natural PG's they are generally more selective or more persistent.
