Abstract

Hydroxyphenyl alkanolamine N-acyl cysteinates of formula (I) are new. In the formula R1 is H or OH; R2 is H, CH3 or iso-C3H7 and R3 is lower alkyl, phenyl or alpha-thienyl. The bases and various of their salts, e.g. phenylphrine, levarterenol, adrenaline and isoprenaline are known therapeutic agents. Aq. solns. of (I) are more stable to light and air than solns. of other salts. They also have a pH of about 5.5-6 and are non-irritating to body tissues, making them particularly suitable for ophthalmic use.
