Abstract

Clavulanic acid salts of formula (I) are new (where R1 and R2 are H or lower alkyl, aralkyl or Ph, opt. carrying inert substits.; R3 is lower alkyl, aralkyl or Ph, opt. carrying inert substits.; or R1 and/or R2 and /or R3 may form a 5-7 membered ring). (I) can be used to treat infections, esp. infections of the respiratory tract, the urinary tract etc. in humans. (I) can also be used in veterinary medicine e.g. to treat mastitis in cows. (I) can be used together with a beta-lactam antibiotic (those sensitive to beta-lactamase or those resistant to beta-lactamase to produce a synergistic effect.
