Abstract

The tube heat exchanger is constructed of tubes carrying one medium which are, on all sides, in contact with tubes carrying the other medium. With triangular tubes, this is achieved in that each wall of a tube carrying one medium also serves as one wall of a neighbouring tube carrying a second medium. Pref. the tube bundles terminate in a transformation coupling which brings together the flow passages of one medium into common channels and leaves the remaining passages open so that the second medium flows around the common passages of the first medium. A cover plate on the end of the coupling piece has openings corresponding to the flow passages of the first medium whilst a connection on the jacket of the coupling piece allows the second medium to enter or leave the heat exchanger by flowing around these passages. The heat exchanger is so arranged that each medium enters the heat exchanger via the openings in the cover plate at one end and leaves the heat exchanger via the openings in the cover plate at one end and leaves the heat exchanger via the coupling jacket connection at the other end. No special measures need be taken to allow for the differential thermal expansion of the tubes and the shell. The space around the tubes is inaccessible for mechanical cleaning.
