Abstract

Elongate slender buoyant caisson is anchored at a lower end in a manner permitting universal pivotal movement of the caisson. A riser pipe extends through the caisson from a subsea pipeline and projects from the upper end of the caisson and terminates in a universally pivotable head connectable to a bow loading and unloading pedestal on a tanker in a manner allowing relative rotation of the pedestal and the head. No floating hoses are needed, and only one man is needed to effect connection of a tanker to and its disconnection from the terminal. Risk of leakage is minimal.
