Abstract

In the feed of a multi-filament yarn to a circular knitter, a pressurised gas medium blows on the yarn initially in a zone between the spool and the needle cylinder to give loops and/or other distortions ranging out from the yarn surface. The overpressure on the gas medium, the over feed rate and the yarn tension are so calculated so that there are >=200 loops per 5m yarn, for a gap of 0.6 mm between the centre line of a monitoring light beam and the adjacent limi line of the projection of the compact yarn structure, and =10 loops for a gap of 3.5mm. The process allows the yarn to be fed into the treatment zone 15-30% faster than the speed at which the yarn is drawn out, and the yarn passage can be varied periodically according to a programme.
