Abstract
A device for separating particles from a gas has a rotating truncated cone-shaped element enclosing a free space into which polluted gas is fed by an inlet tube. Clean gas leaves through an outlet tube at the narrow end of the element and separated particles fall into a catch bin below the widest end of the cone. The inlet pipe extends coaxially to the median or narrowest part of truncated cone-shaped space and has one or more outlet opening that direct polluted gas at a tangent and/or parallel to the wall enclosing the free space. A truncated cone-shaped cap can be positioned inside the free space to form an annular space between it and the rotating element. This cap can be fixed to the inlet tube in such a way that the outlets of the inlet tube are situated in the surface of the cap. Alternatively the cap can be fixed to a rotating tube so that it rotates with the rotating element. The element in this case Would be supported from the rotating tube, which also acts as the outlet tube, by means of a flange and gudgeon studs that are fixed to the narrowest end of the truncated cone-shaped element. An inlet tube surrounds the gudgeon studs so that the polluted gas enters the space between the element and the cap at the narrowest end. The cap is fixed to the end of the rotating tube in such a way that it can be adjusted in an axial direction to alter the witdth of the space between the element and the cap. Device can be used for solid particles from a gaseous stream, e.g. cement particles from a flue gas; silicon dioxide dust coming from electrostatic precipitators. The device is of simple construction and takes up little space.
