Abstract

The process comprises reacting propylene with oxygen and ammonia in the vapour phase in the presence of a catalyst of formula MoaCobFecXdOe which have been calcined at 550-700 degrees C. In the formula X is P, As, Sb or Bi; A,b,c,d,e is atomic ratio, when a is 12, b is 4-9, c 1-5, d 0.01-0.07 and e is decided by the valence of the elements except for oxygen, and is 39.5 to 52.7. Requirement of heat for the reaction is low, and the catalyst has a long life. Acrylonitrile is produced in a yield of >80% and there is little byprod. formation.
