1354787 Ammoxidation process SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO Ltd 16 July 1971 [18 Sept 1970] 33569/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division B1] Methacrylonitrile is produced by the vapourphase reaction of isobutylene, ammonia and oxygen by contacting the reactants at elevated temperature with a catalyst comprising an active material of the formula Mo 12 Bi b Fe c Tl d X e P f O g , wherein X is nickel, magnesium, manganese and/or cobalt and b is 0À1 to 5, c is 0À1 to 5, d is greater than zero but not more than 2, e is 2 to 15, f is 0 to 5 and g is 38À3 to 81À5. The catalyst may be supported on a carrier, e.g. silica, alumina, silicon carbide or titanium dioxide.
