Abstract

The arrangement compares the outer boundary of the desired free area with the free area actually available between any obstacles alongside a railway track (2, 3) by projecting a measuring plane (7) at right angles to the track at a given distance and comparing this with an image of the desired free area at that distance. It uses a light source which is screened such (5, 6) that it radiates light in the plane (7), a video camera (8) at a given distance, with monitor (10) whose screen (9) is masked to leave an opening (11) corresponding with the desired free area at that distance, and video registration means (12).
