Abstract

The motion analysis instrument determines movement of vehicles along a road by viewing successive photographs taken from aircraft at set intervals and with each photograph overlapping the preceding one by at least 60%. The instrument, comprises two projectors. The first projector can project every other photograph of a series onto a screen using a mirror while the second projector reproduces the remaining photographs onto the same screen. EAch projector can be displaced laterally along a rail so that a continuous picture with overlapping areas can be obtained on the screen. By determining the relative position of vehicles on the continuous picture an analysis can be made of vehicle direction and speed along the road being studied.
