Abstract

The governor limits the max. speed of a diesel in a lorry etc., the engine being supplied by a pump with a governor lever is fitted. The lever is rotated by the accelerator pedal via a linkage, its movement being restricted by a max. stop. An adjustment between the linkage and the governor spindle varies the amount of movement of the spindle between max. and min. limits, incorporating a spring-loaded piston in a cylinder and with piston rod. The cylinder is connected by an automatic control valve either to a compressed air source, to drive the piston one way against the pring, or to atmos. to allow the piston to be driven the other way by the spring. The end position of the linkage (6) in the acceleration direction is determined by a lug (31) on it, which strikes a stop (32). The piston (12) with rod (13) and cylinder is incorporated in the linkage between the lug and the governor lever (3).
