Abstract

The mixt. is purified with a de-mineraliser comprising a mixt. of anion exchange granules (I) and cation exchange granules (II). After the water has passed through the bed, the latter is separated into a layer of (I) and a layer of (II) for regeneration. (I) is regenerated with caustic soda and then treated with an aq. hydrazine soln. After treatment, the hydrazine soln. is purified by passing it through a bed of a cation exchange resin of the hydrazine type and the purified soln. re-used to treat (I). The system is used to regenerate the de-mineraliser for condensed steam turbine water and to control the quality of boiler feed water e.g. in atomic power plants. The process keeps hydrazine losses to a min. as well as using the hydrazine as a reductant to remove Fe from (I) and enable the bed to maintain a high capacity at all times.
