Abstract
1446603 Recycling chromium plating waste water KAYABAKOGYO KK 18 Sept 1973 [22 Sept 1972 (3)] 43853/73 Heading C7B Chromium plating waste water 16 e.g. from primary washing tank 12 is recycle treated by rendering it neutral (pH 7-8) in neutralization tank 18 with filter 22 by adding NaOH or Ca(OH)2 from tank 20 to precipitate metal ions (e.g. Fe, Cu) contained therein as hydroxides; filtering and passing the filtrate (without adjusting its pH) e.g. from tank 24 through cation and anion exchange resins to remove Na or Ca ions and chromic acid ions respectively, e.g. in pre-treatment towers 26a, b and adsorption towers 30a, b; recycling the purified water so obtained e.g. stored in recovery tank 32 to serve as washing water, e.g. through tank 34 and secondary washing tank 14, in the chromium plating process; and treating the effluents produced during regeneration of the anion exchange resins, e.g. desorbing using NaOH solution from tank 36 to obtain concentrated Na 2 CrO 4 solution in primary recovery tank 38 and adsorbing the Na ions of the solution by cation exchange resins e.g. in purification tower 40, to recover chromic acid solution e.g. in (secondary) recovery tank 42 for use in the plating tank 10. The cation exchange resins may be regenerated with H s SO 4 or HCl from tank 44. The filtrate tank may be divided into two (24a, b) Fig. 2 (not shown) when use is made of a supplementary cylinder (50) packed with strongly basic anion exchange resins to adsorb (remove) chromic acid, the effluent being re-used as washing water through tank 34 (via tank 24b), and the filtrate being allowed to pass through towers 26a, b and 30a, b only when the resins of cylinder 50 are being regenerated with NaOH; or the filtrate tank may be divided into three when use is made of two supplementary cylinders (50, 52) in Fig. 5 (not shown), packed respectively with strongly basic anion and strongly audic cation exchange resins.
