Abstract

The duct is completely enclosed and forms a closed loop, having any suitable configuration. On one side is an inlet for loading and a discharge outlet is provided. The discs are made from plastic and fill the duct, except for some play clearance; the edges of the discs may be bevelled to provide clearance and a scraper edge which prevents clogging. All discs are fixed at equal intervals along the length of a cable being attached through their centres. Motion is provided by a large rotating wheel with shaped slots, contacting each disc in turn as it is driven round. The modulus of elasticity of the discs is greater in a direction perpendicular to the discs than in the plane of the disc.
