Abstract
A single phase stepping motor having a rotor with uniformly distributed permanent magnetic poles (7) uniformly distributed around the circumference showing alternating polarity, revolving within a wound stator with the same number of poles as the rotor, each stator pole having a main part (11) and an extension projecting away from the direction of the rotor in known fashion. On each rotor pole a thin plate of soft iron (14) is attached of such thickness that it is saturated by a fraction of the stator flux. The plates may extend along the axial length of the rotor (4) and have a width equal to or less than the width of the main parts of the stator poles. The effect is to increase starting torque and to reduce losses without reducing the holding torque.
