Abstract

995,691. D.C. motors having adjustable permanent magnets. S. SMITH & SONS (ENGLAND) Ltd. May 22, 1964 [July 10, 1963], No. 27254/63. Heading H2A. A D.C. motor comprises two hollow cylindrical stator permanent magnets one 5 fitted within the other 6, and a wound rotor 1 rotatable within the magnet 5, one of the magnets e.g. 6 being manually rotatable to vary the magnetic flux through the rotor. The magnets are of ferrite, and the magnet 6 is constrained to rotate through only 180 degrees, means being provided to retain it in any desired position. The slight change of resultant flux may be in a sense to compensate for armature reaction, and the torque/speed characteristic is described. Conventional brush and commutating arrangements are provided for the rotor winding 3.
