Abstract

The heat exchanger has inlets and outlets for the gas and for the coolant. A separator plate divides the gas inlet chamber from the cooling chamber, and the gas pipes in the inlet chamber are each enclosed in a cooling jacket passing through the separator plate so as to connect jackets and cooling chamber. In the inlet chamber the gas pipe ends are connected to the outer ends of the jackets, which are in turn connected at these points to coolant feed pipes. The jacket diameter is largest near the inlet end, decreasing at the central portion, and decreasing again adjacent to the separator plate.
