Abstract

An adhesive and sealant compsn. contains 1-2.5 (1.8-2.2) kg. Al, bronze, Sn, Ag and/or Cu powder, 1-4 (3-3.5) kg camphor, 20-35 kg nitrocellulose, 90-120 (90-110) litres acetone and 4.5-12 litres methylene chloride; is not >50 wt.% of the metal powder may be prealced by colloidal kaolin. The compsn. is used for bonding all types of substances, esp. metals, and for sealing holes, esp. leaks in vehicle radiators. The 1-component system can be packed in a tube and is esp. suitable for do-it-yourself purposes. The drying time is from a few minutes up to 30 minutes, and the hardening time is 2-24 hours. The nitrocellulose may be a mixt. of 50% nitrocellulose of 25-30 cP and 50% of nitrocellulose of 100-150 cP. Inclusion of colloidal kaolin gives more rapid drying. In sealing openings, the compsn. is pref. applied in 2-3 mm layers, with 15 minutes between the apples. When used as a sealant, the seal may be reinforced with a glass fibre mat.
