Abstract

An intumescent composition which can be applied to an article as a solution or as a putty contains the following ingredients: a binding agent; an inorganic phosphate; a melamine type compound; starch, dextrin or carboxymethyl-cellulose; pentaerythritol; and optionally a foaming agent.
