Abstract

A deep bed filter with upwards flow has a vessel with a bottom liquid inlet, a distributor, a bed of dumped filter medium and a top outlet. The filter medium is retained in the vessel by a bed of a second material with lower S.G. than the medium. The filter does not have a strainer at the outlet to retain fine particles of the filter medium. This reduces maintenance and construction costs.
