Abstract
Grass is sown in a suitable soil mixture under perforated tiles which have supports on their under surface to take loads to which the lawn is subjected. The grass grows through the apertures in the tiles. In this way, grass can be grown on tarmac or concrete surfaces, or in very dry areas where excessive wear and heavy loading is expected, avoiding damage to the plants and impaction of the soil. The tiles are formed from concrete and the perforations are arranged as a regular grid. The tarmac or concrete surface on which the method is used may be covered by a perforated plastic sheet to conserve moisture.
