Abstract
prodn. of 5-amino-4-imidazole-carboxamide-riboside (AICAR) by culturing a variant of Bacillus megatherium in a medium contng. a carbon and nitrogen source and a purine base or its nucleoside or nucleotide. AICAR is then isolated from the medium. AICAR is a precursor of purine nucleotides and may be used as an intermediate for the industrial prodn. of nucleic acid derivs. such as 5'-inosinic acid, 5'-guanylic acid etc. The process is economical and is suitable for large scale production giving a good yield of ca. 9 g/l. medium.
