Abstract

A powder feeder for a plasma or flame spray gun for coating e.g. with plastics, ceramics, or metals, includes a housing having a powder reservoir with screw conveyor in a sump connected to a fluidising chamber. Pressurised gas supplied to the chamber conveys the powder through an outlet. a rotatably driven valve cyclically vents the chamber to produce pulsations for avoiding pressing build-up and ensuring easy flow. There is a pressure equalising connection between the reservoir and chamber. Pref. the screw conveyor and rotary valve are motor driven at variable speed. The gas is supplied through an orificed pips in the chamber. The feed rate can be precisely controlled within a variable range.
