Abstract

Toner particles for use in electrostatographic processes are prepd. by (a) forming with the help of an emulsifier a dispersion of pigment particles of size 2 mu in a monomer of mixt. of monomers, or in a mixt. of reagents forming a resin by a condensation reaction, or forming a soln. of a dye in such a monomer, monomer mixt., or mixt. of reagents, the dye being oil soluble when the monomer, monomer mixt. or mixt. of reagents is water soluble, or vice versa, (b) dispersing the dispersion or soln. in an inert liq. so that pigment-contg. droplets are formed with size 50 mu, the inert liq. being of such a type that the emulsifier, when it is present, is insoluble in this liq., and (c) polymerising or reacting the droplets in the liq. which contains a suspension stabiliser for preventing the agglomeration of the droplets during the polymsn. or reaction. Gives toner particles in which the coloured material is very uniformly distributed in the polymer material.
