Abstract

The sacks are mfrd. by (a) transporting an elongated rectangular sheet along a rotating drum with the length axis of the sheet running in the direction of motion, two gripper units being fitted to the drum and extending in the length direction thereof, (b) gripping the sheet successively with the gripper units, on either side of its transverse axis and at equal distances therefrom, corresp. to the depth of the bottom fold. (c) moving the front gripper unit - viewed in the direction of drum rotation-more slowly over a part of the drum revolution, after gripping the sheet, than the second gripper unit, (d) delivering the M-shape folded sheet, after the two gripper, units have come into contact to a conveyor on which the side welds are made.
