Abstract
Fuel rod of known general type comprising a gas-tight can filled with fissionable material but provided also with a cavity designed to receive gaseous fission products, the novel feature of the system being that the residual cavity is subdivided by one or more partitions into two or more parts, at least one of which contains a pre-compressed gas, and preferably is so constructed that it is in open connection with the space contg. the fissionable material of the fuel rod. The pre-compression is pref. equal to the system pressure under maximum operating conditions for the reactor utilising the fuel rod.
