Abstract
A number of closed chambers are contained in a limited space, their walls capable of absorbing by diffusion the gas round the outside of the chambers. Pressure is raised for a period to allow diffusion to take place through the chamber walls, and then lowered to ambient, or to a value where diffusion towards the exterior is negligible. The chambers can be spherical and of glass, and can be contained in a space with a retaining shield of material which, like the chamber walls, transmits the gases by diffusion. The chambers can be heated to accelerate diffusion, after which they are cooled again to one where outward diffusion is negligible.
