Abstract

In order to change its properties a mass of material is converted by explosive pressure between a coaxial pair of hollow, explosive charges which are fired simultaneously within an explosion chamber inside a massively strong block. Residual gases from the conversion should be evacuated at a controlled rate, e.g. by way of vent passages initially blocked with fusible plugs of differing characteristics which give way progressively as the explosion heat and pressure rise.
