Abstract

A plate used for closing off the bottom of and supporting a block mould for use in steel casting, particularly designed to avoid the rather short length of life due to corrosion by the steel in the centre of the plate, is constructed as a multi-part unit, comprising a core and surrounding ring, pref. by the use of a core of cast iron of good heat dissipating properties and/or of inexpensive quality, and a surrounding ring made from a material capable of resisting the stresses which arise.
