Abstract

The tetracycline-sodium methyleneamino-salicylate complex (I):- Water soluble medicinally useful compd. Tetracycline (II) and sodium methyleneamino-salicylate (III) are mixed in a suitable solvent such as methanol. To a stirred soln. of 1 g (II) in 10 ml methanol was added a soln. of 0.5 g (III) in 2 ml methanol when (I) separated immediately. Evaporation of the filtrate gave a further quantity. The combined crops were allowed to stand in air for 12 hrs. to stabilize the water content. The stability of (I) in soln. depends on its content of (III). A concentrated aq. soln. is stable for 6-8 hrs. Increasing the concentration of the (III) increases the stability of aq. solns. of (I).
