Abstract

1,238,981. Releasable fastenings. BOUSSOIS SOUCHON NEUVESEL. 19 March, 1969 [26 March, 1968], No. 14353/69. Heading E2A. An assembly comprises a movable leaf such as a window casement 2, a fixed frame 1, against which the leaf is brought to bear in the closed position, and a fastening device comprising a main fastener A having a bolt 5 mounted on the leaf and cooperating with a keeper 6 fixed oppositely thereto on the fixed frame, a handle 11 mounted on the leaf to control the bolt and at least one auxiliary fastener 7, wherein motion-transmission means carried by the fixed frame are connected on the one hand to the or each auxiliary fastener and on the other hand to connection means 22 mounted within said keeper and adapted to be operated by said bolt, whereby the or each auxiliary fastener is remotely operated upon actuation of said handle. In the construction shown, Figs. 1, 2, and 5, the bolt 5 of the main fastener is a bell-crank-lever one arm of which is engageable with the keeper and the other arm of which forms an operating handle 11 for pivoting the bolt; it is connected to the leaf 2 by means of a pivot pin 12, a mounting plate 13 and a clamping plate 14. The keeper comprises a housing with a detachable front cover (not shown) and it includes a plate 17 having a slot 16 through which an end portion of one arm of the bolt 5 can pass; the slot is shaped so that when the bolt 5 enters the slot the leaf 2 is first drawn into engagement with a sealing gasket on the fixed frame and subsequently passes beyond a stop 21 for holding the leaf in the closed position. The end portion of the bolt 5 after passing through the slot 16 engages the connection means 22 which is in the form of a slide block which is carried in the keeper on a rod 23. The slide block is connected via a cable 10 of the motion transmission means to the auxiliary fastener 7 so that the fastening movement of the bolt 5 via the slide block and cable moves the auxiliary fastener to the fastening condition. The auxiliary fastener is mounted on the fixed frame and consists of a box 32 which is open on two sides and which pivotally supports a bolt 33 which has two arms 37 and 38; the arm 38 is engageable with the leaf to hold it in engagement with the fixed frame in closed position and the arm 37 is connected to the cable 10; the bolt is biased by a spring 45 to the releasing position in which its arm 38 is disposed in a recess 46 in the box 32. The spring 45 via the cable 10 also serves to return the slide block to its initial position when the bolt 5 is moved to releasing position. In a modification instead of a cable connecting the slide block to the or each auxiliary fastener, rigid link rods are used in conjunction with bell crank levers for dealing with corners; in such a case the slide block is provided with its own restoring spring. The above constructions are suitable only a leaf which pivots about a single axis either at one edge or centrally and a construction is described which is suitable for a leaf which is pivotable about two axis at right angles; this is shown in Fig. 15; four auxiliary fasteners 107a, 107b are used and these also act as hinges; two of the auxiliary fasteners are disposed so that the leaf can pivot on them about its bottom edge and two are disposed so that the leaf can pivot about its right hand edge. The main fastener has a bolt 105 which can take up three positions in the centre position it is disposed underneath a boss of the keeper 106 and holds the leaf in the closed position, the auxiliary fasteners also each being in the fastening condition at such time; in one of the other positions the fasteners 107a at the bottom of the leaf are released so that the leaf can pivot about its right hand edge and in the third position of the bolt 105 the auxiliary fasteners 107b at the right hand edge of the leaf are released so that it can pivot about the fasteners 107a at its bottom edge. The bolt 105 of the main fastener is slidably disposed in a recess of a support member 113 which is fixed to the leaf 102 and includes a rack 115 which is engaged by a toothed sector 114 which is connected via the shaft 112 with an operating handle 111. The bolt 105 carries a pin 116 which in the closed position of the leaf engages a bore 122 in a slide block 121 in the box keeper so that movement of the bolt between its fastening and either of its releasing positions moves the block 121. The block is connected via bars and chains to the auxiliary fasteners. The bar 124 which is connected to the block extends beyond the upper end of the block and terminates in a right angled portion which is directed towards the leaf 102; in the central fastening position of the bolt 105 the right angled portion engages a cross member 128 which is fixed along the upper edge portion of the leaf 102 and thus fastens the upper portion of the leaf in position, in the two releasing positions of the bolt 105 the right angled portion is disposed above and below the cross member respectively. Each of the auxiliary fasteners consists of a component 141 which is secured to the fixed frame, a component 143 which is secured to the leaf 102 and a slidable pin 145 can connect the two components together. The pin 145 is connected via slide 150 with a bar which is linked to the main bolt. The pin can take up three positions in the component 141 in one of which it is withdrawn from the component 143 and in the other two positions it is engaged with the component 143 penetrating more deeply into the component 143 in the second of these two positions.
