Abstract
Process for the prepn. of polydodecanolactam by heating dodeconolactam at polymn. temp. in the presence of a catalytic amount of an organic phosphonic acid, opt. in the presence of a monofunctional cpd., such as a monobasic carboxylic or an N-substd. amide as chain terminator, is characterised by the polymn. being carried out in the additional presence of a catalytic amount of a carbonate ester, or an N-acetyllactam. Addition of the N-acetyllactam or carbonate ester enables polymn. to be carried out for shorter periods of time and/or lower temps., without a reduction in the yield of polydodecanolactam.
